POETRY AS THE ART OF WORDS: AN OPEN PRACTICAL LESSON IN LITERARY STUDIES IN GROUP FL-1-25

Within the course “Introduction to Literary Studies,” an open practical lesson on the topic “Poetry as the Art of Words: Poem, Rhyme, and Literary Tropes” was conducted for first-year students of group FL-1-25. The lesson was led by Senior Lecturer Ergasheva Dilafruz Ibrahimovna.

The aim of the lesson was to develop students’ understanding of poetry as a unique form of artistic expression, as well as to enhance their skills in analyzing poetic texts. During the lesson, students became familiar with the structure of a poem, types of rhyme, and key literary tropes.

The lesson was conducted in an interactive format: students worked in teams, presented mini-presentations, and completed practical and creative tasks. They analyzed poems, identified literary devices such as hyperbole, alliteration, simile, and personification, and discussed their impact on the emotional perception of the text. Special attention was given to the expressiveness of poetic language, the role of intonation, and how sound patterns enhance meaning.

A distinctive feature of the open lesson was a creative task in which students, working in teams, translated poems from English into Russian while striving to preserve both meaning and rhyme. This activity enabled them to better appreciate the nature of poetic language and demonstrate their creative abilities. In addition, special tasks were designed for attending guests and lecturers, making the session more engaging and interactive.

The lesson contributed to the development of students’ imaginative thinking, aesthetic taste, and interest in world poetry, while also helping them reinforce their theoretical knowledge through practice.
