HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT of KYRGYZ  LANGUAGE and LITERATURE 

When Jalal-Abad State University was established in 1993, the Department of Linguistics was formed within the Faculty of Engineering and Pedagogy. During 1993–1994, the department was headed by Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor M. E. Darbanov.

In September 1994, the Department of Kyrgyz Language and Literature was separated, and Candidate of Philological Sciences K. B. Kalchekeev became the head of the newly established Kyrgyz Language Department. In 1998, the Kyrgyz Language Department was reorganized as an independent academic unit under the leadership of Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor A. Kadyrova.

In 2008, the Department of Kyrgyz Language was merged with the Department of State Language and Practical Courses, and Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Z. A. Azhybaeva was appointed as the head of the newly combined department. According to the decision of the Academic Council of Jalal-Abad State University dated January 17, 2011, the two departments were unified under the name of the Department of Kyrgyz Language and Literature, headed by Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Aitmamat Omorov.

Since April 2016, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor G. K. Bakirova has served as the head of the Kyrgyz Language Department, while Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor D. M. Chokoeva was elected as the head of the Department of Kyrgyz and World Literature and Journalism through a competitive selection.

In accordance with Protocol No. 9 of the Academic Council meeting held on June 30, 2021, a competition was announced for the vacant position of department head. Based on the results published in the Aymak socio-political newspaper on May 18, 2021, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor A. Kadyrova was appointed as the head of the Department of Kyrgyz Language and Literature.

From September 2023, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor I. Abduvaliev led the department.

As of August 26, 2025, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor G. K. Bakirova has been appointed as the head of the Department of Kyrgyz Language and Literature.

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Kyrgyz Language and Literature trains specialists in the field of Kyrgyz language and literature (bachelor and master) in the field of philological education 550300. For the profile of the Kyrgyz language and literature of the philological educational direction 550300, the basic educational program for obtaining a bachelor's degree and the basic educational program for master's degree (Master's degree) have been developed. The main educational program covers all the activities of students and graduates of the specified profile. A graduate competence model for bachelors has been created for graduates of this profile, and a graduate competence model for masters. It provides the concept and definition of the graduate's competence model, contains the basics of model development, structure, characteristics of the graduate's professional activity, and competencies formed by the graduate.

ACHIEVEMENT OF THE DEPARTMENT:

The faculty of the department has prepared and published more than 60 educational and methodological works, about 50 scientific articles, and more than 15 textbooks. Teachers of the Department of Kyrgyz Language and Literature have been awarded state awards for their services and achievements in the field of education:

 - Certificate of Honor from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic to 7 teachers;

- 7 best teachers of education in the Kyrgyz Republic; - The Certificate of Honor of the city of Jalal-Abad was awarded to 6 students,

- Certificate of Honor from the Plenipotentiary Mission of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Jalal-Abad region to 6 teachers;

 - Medal “Kyrgyz language " of the National Commission on the State Language under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic for 7 teachers;

- Certificate of Honor from the National Commission on the State Language under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic to 6 teachers;

 - Medal ”Honored Worker of JASU" to 5 teachers.

COMPETITION WINNERS

1. In 2009-2011, members of the department worked on the scientific project "medieval monuments and the Kyrgyz language, language relations", in which Professor I. N.Abduvalieva, associate professors A. Omorov, G. Bakirova Scientific articles, "M.Kashgari-a great scientist of the Middle Ages" (B-Zh-A, 2011). Professor Jamu I.Abduvaliev, Associate Professor A.Omorov, Associate Professor of I.M. Sultanaliev National Research University, Senior Researcher at the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic. Tolubaev.3 volumes of the Kashgar dictionary "Divanu lugati T-Turk" have been translated into Kyrgyz, all volumes have been published. In 2020-2021, the staff of the department carried out scientific work on a project called “plot-thematic indicators of the epic ”Erzyan". Professor K.B.Kalchekeev and his teacher R.T. Keldibayeva's scientific articles were published in the scientific collection "Bulletin of Jamu" (2021).

2. In 2013, at a competition dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the founding of the educational institution, the 20th anniversary of Jamu, in the nomination "Best Young Teacher", teacher N.K.Zhalilova took 1st place in the "Best Curator" nomination.K.Zhalilova took the 1st place.

3. In 2016, the Azadabegim circle (headed by Kadyrova A.)Winner of the "Best Scientific Circle" competition (diploma);

4. In the 2017-2018 academic year, Alina Kanybekovna, a 4th-year student of Kyrgyz language and literature (CT-1-14), became the winner of the Presidential Scholarship.

5. On April 21-22, 2017, in Bishkek, at the 1st International Festival of Languages and Culture of the World (”Unity in Diversity") BSU named after.Karasayeva's team of the specialty ”Kyrgyz language and literature" took 1st place. The head is F.I.K. M. V. Lomonosov.

6. Students of the faculties took 1st place in the open interuniversity republican contest ”The use of the Kyrgyz language in information technology“, which was held on October 4, 2018 at the National Commission for the State Language under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, Nalut SOFT LLC, the International University of Innovative Technologies. The head is teacher N. Zhalilova.

7. In 2019, in the interuniversity Republican radio quiz on the topic “Language and Nationality”, organized by the National Commission on the State Language under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and Kyrgyz Radio, a team formed from students of interfacult faculties, took 2nd place. The head is teacher N. Zhalilova.

 8. On April 25, 2019, the National Commission for the State Language under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Osh City Hall, participated in the project development competition “The best competition for digitalization technologies in reading and learning the State Language” of Osh State Technical University.Adysheva faculty students with the project “Application of digitalization technologies in reading and learning the state language" took 2nd place. The head is teacher N. Zhalilova.

9. JASU publishes annual ratings of scientists' activities. According to the results of scientific activity for 2017-2018-2019, Professor I.Abduvaliev took the 3rd place (690 points) among the teaching staff, associate professor G.K. Bakirova took an active part, scoring 410 points. When evaluating the rating of the activities of the structural units of JASU, the Department of Kyrgyz Language and Literature took the 2nd place among 23 departments and 2 colleges.

 10. Following the results of the 2020-2021 academic year, the title “Best monograph” was awarded to the professor of the department, F.I.D., M.Mirzakhidova 1st place, the teacher with the title “best graduate student” N. Zhalilova took 1st place.

 1. In the 2014-2015 academic year, 3 students majoring in Kyrgyz language and literature took 1st place at the interuniversity Republican Olympiad, in the 2015-2016 academic year, 1 student took 3rd place.

 2. In 2015, at the IV regional Olympiad at the Kyrgyz-Uzbek University in Osh in the Kyrgyz language discipline (from the starting group), M. makhamajanova (M-1-14) took 1st place, (from the continuation group) Kubanychbek kyzy E. (M-1-14) took 3rd place. Supervisor: teacher N.K.Zhalilova.

3. In 2016, the V Regional Student Olympiad in Kyrgyz language and literature was held on the basis of the KPI Batsu in Kyzylkiya. (CT-1-13) took the 3rd place. Supervisors: F.I.K. M. V.  6. In 2019, in the city of Osh, on the basis of the Osh State Pedagogical Institute, a regional student Olympiad was held on the subject: Manas studies Kubanychbek K.U. - (CT-1-15) 2nd place. Head – F.I.K., associate professor Kadyrova A.

7. In the 2017-2018 academic year, Alina Kanybekovna, a 4th-year student of Kyrgyz language and literature (CT-1-14), became the winner of the presidential scholarship.

8. In April 21–22, 2017, the team of the Department of Kyrgyz Language and Literature won first place at the 1st International Festival of World Languages and Cultures (“Unity in Diversity”), organized at Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University named after Karasaev in Bishkek. 9. On October 4, 2018, the students won first place in the Interfaculty Republican Contest “Using the State Language in Information Technologies”. The event was jointly organized by the National Commission on the State Language under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Education and Science, “Ulut Soft” LLC, and the International University of Innovative Technologies. 12. At the Faculty of Philology of JASU, the Department of Kyrgyz Language and Literature has approved 9 classrooms for students studying in the 500300 philological education (profile: Kyrgyz language and literature, Russian language and literature). Each auditorium is decorated with educational exhibitions on professional disciplines. The faculty of the department conducts classes equipped with technical equipment (interactive whiteboard, projector, computer). Winners of republican contests

 1. On December 14, 2021, on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the adoption of the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On the State Language", the Republican Festival "Kyrgyz songs performed by foreign students", organized by the International Higher Medical School, was held in Bishkek. 2. In the 2024-2025 academic year, the Kut Bilim Group was formed from the 3rd to the 4th courses of the Faculty of Philology of the Jamu.Osmonova, majoring in Kyrgyz language and literature, took part in the 5th round of the Bilgi students' intellectual TV project The National Broadcasting Corporation of the Kyrgyz Republic, the National Commission on the State Language and Language Policy under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic among the republican universities, according to the results of which it took the 2nd place and the students were each awarded a diploma of the 2nd degree. It was prepared by the great teacher A.Sheripbaev.

4.
