THE QUALITY OF TEST ITEMS — THE BASIS OF KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT

On February 2, 2026, at 3:00 PM, the Quality Council of the E. Umetov Pedagogical Institute of the “B. Osmonov Jalal-Abad State University” Scientific-Educational Production Complex held a methodological seminar in room 408. The theme of the seminar was “High-Quality Test Items as a Tool for Evaluating Teaching Effectiveness.” The primary objective of the event was to improve the quality of education based on the results of students’ residual knowledge monitoring conducted by the Department of Licensing, Accreditation, and Quality of Education. It also aimed to enhance faculty members’ methodological skills in test construction and ensure the objectivity of knowledge assessment. The institute’s faculty and teaching staff participated in the seminar. In accordance with the JASU Regulations on the Development of Test Items for Modules and Exams, several key issues were discussed. During the session, particular emphasis was placed on the structure of test items, ensuring they are concise, clear, and designed to stimulate students’ thinking and recall. It was noted that each test item must include at least four multiple-choice options, with an estimated completion time of 2-3 minutes per item. Furthermore, practical examples were provided for five test formats (multiple-choice, open-ended, matching, sequencing, and graphical tasks), and the specifics of integrating these into the “Program 37” (AVN system) were explained. The final stage of the seminar featured a dynamic discussion where faculty members shared valuable suggestions. Specifically, they highlighted the need to increase the proportion of logical and analytical questions and to make greater use of images and diagrams depending on the specific nature of the disciplines. In conclusion, the participants highly praised the relevance of the seminar and agreed to continue efforts in this direction on a systematic basis.
