A lecturer of ZHAMU, A.A. Tashmatova, trainer of OshSU’s Industrial-Pedagogical College, Director of the College of Economics and Law and lecturer of the Social Work Department, conducted a practical master class for the students of the Industrial-Pedagogical College of Osh State University entitled “Social Work in the Context of Poverty and Migration Crises.” The event was aimed at developing the professional competencies of students studying in the field of social work.

The purpose of the master class was to analyze the complex impact of poverty and migration processes on families and to teach methods of providing comprehensive social assistance to citizens in crisis situations.

Content of the Master Class

I. Introduction and Problem Identification

Participants were introduced to each other, and an overview of the current economic situation in Kyrgyzstan and the main directions of migration was provided. The concepts of absolute and relative poverty, as well as the causes and forms of the migration crisis, were discussed.

II. Theoretical Part: Diagnostics and Risk Assessment

Students learned about the multidimensional nature of poverty, methods for rapid assessment of family budgets, migration risks, adaptation processes, and return-related crises. Special attention was given to vulnerable groups—women migrants, single parents, and migrants with disabilities.

III. Practical Part: Intervention and Resource Mobilization

Through practical assignments and case studies, students explored:

guidance on social benefits programs,

safe channels for migrants,

correct actions in crisis situations (illness, loss of documents, deportation),

psychological support for children of migrants,

reintegration work with returnees.

IV. Conclusion

At the end of the event, the main ideas were reinforced, participants asked questions and received answers, and a certificate of appreciation was awarded by the Director of OshSU’s Industrial-Pedagogical College, M. Manashov.

Useful resources and informational materials on migration and poverty were also shared.

The master class enabled students to combine theory with practice, examine real social issues from multiple perspectives, and strengthen their preparedness for future professional work.
